Escape to the North Carolina Mountains

"Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home." - John Muir

Morning view from front porch

Welcome home...

...to Memory Mountain Lodge.  Play checkers on the front porch, cuddle up on the swing or sip your morning coffee while relaxing in an authentic Amish rocking chair (imported from Pennsylvania) as the sun pokes through the trees…. Read a book on the back porch as you listen to the waterfalls cascading down the mountain stream less than thirty feet away…. See the plentiful mountain laurel bloom in the spring…. Feel the cool mountain breeze as you wade in the stream and watch the native brook trout swim about in the summer…. Savor natures beauty as you take in the fall colors…. Make a snowman or take a sled ride down the hill in the winter….

Built to look like a farmhouse

Memory Mountain Lodge has board and batten siding, front and back porches that run the length of the house, pine wood floors and bead board ceilings throughout the first floor, pine molding throughout the entire house and a fireplace in the family room. It even has the glass doorknobs just like grandpa’s farm used to have! It also has several functional antiques from grandma and grandpa’s house sprinkled throughout the lodge.  Don't worry, you won't experience any old farmhouse drafts at the lodge.  It was completed in May, 2003.

With 4 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths, the lodge will accommodate up to 14 people. And, though it is built to look like a farmhouse, it has all of the modern conveniences you would expect: wireless internet, satellite TV with DVD/VCR players, gas fireplace and multi-CD player to name a few. You can see more complete details and photos of the lodge by going to the lodge tour.

Want to explore nature's beauty?

This is the place!  Memory Mountain Lodge is located between 1 million acres of National Forests; Nantahala National Forest to the West and Pisgah National Forest to the North, East and South.  Visit a waterfall (or 2 or 3, there are literally hundreds of them in the area). There are many waterfall options ranging from spectacular views that you can see without leaving your car or boat, others that are a short hike (less than 100 yards) and others that are a strenuous hike well off the beaten path.  There are also numerous kid-friendly slide rocks and swimming holes to have fun in.

Lake Glenville

Take a hike… go fishing… enjoy a rafting adventure… go skiing (water or snow)… spend a day in a pontoon boat on Lake Glenville… take a trail ride - on horseback or mountain bike… watch the sunset at the top of Sunset Rock in Highlands… pause to gaze in awe at a granite-faced mountain with a beautiful valley below… take a drive on the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway….  Whether your idea of nature is hiking 10 miles in the mountains or sipping a cold drink in the shade of a pontoon boat, there are endless opportunities close by.  Check out the things to do for more details, links and some of our personal favorites.

Would you rather spend the day shopping?

There are numerous unique shops in nearby Highlands, Cashiers and Brevard (and many spots in between).  There are also craft shows, art festivals and bazaars throughout the year - especially April through October.  Check out the things to do for links to local events and some of our personal favorites.
